Summary      
John McGarvey was born on 9th December 1893. He was a son of Michael and Mary McGarvey of Dirnan, Lissan, Cookstown. He emigrated to Canada and enlisted in 1915 when he was twenty-two years of age. His enlistment papers state, he was five feet seven inches tall with blue eyes, light brown hair and a fresh complexion. He worked as a labourer and was single. He listed his father as next of kin.
