10/02/2019 MCALLISTER – In loving memory of our dear son, Private Jack McAllister, who was killed in action on 9th September 1917.
10/02/2019 In a hollowed grave unknown,
10/02/2019 But his name is written in letters of gold,
10/02/2019 On the hearts he left at home.
10/02/2019 As dawn swept over the trenches,
10/02/2019 Our only grief, we were not there,
10/02/2019 To take the last farewell.

14/01/2016 John McAllister was born on 26th May 1894 in the district of Magherafelt.
14/01/2016 Family: Daniel McAllister, Elizabeth McAllister, Annie McAllister (born 14th July 1892), John McAllister (born 26th May 1894), Susan McAllister (born 10th November 1895), Maggie McAllister (born 15th March 1898).
14/01/2016 The 1901 census lists John as age 6 living with the family at house 11 in Ballyrogully, Loop, County Londonderry. His father was a farm servant.
14/01/2016 The 1911 census lists John as age 17, living with the family at house 18 in Ballymultrea, Salterstown. Both he and his father were agricultural labourers.
14/01/2016 John was a member of Salterstown L.O.L. No 482.
14/01/2016 John McAllister enlisted in Randalstown, joining the 9th Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.
14/01/2016 Private John McAllister was killed in action on 9th September 1917 in France.
14/01/2016 He is also commemorated on Ballinderry Church of Ireland Roll of Honour.
14/01/2016 John McAllister was the eldest son of Daniel and Elizabeth McAllister. Daniel McAllister married Elizabeth on 27th July 1891 in Magherafelt district.
14/01/2016 Private John McAllister is buried in Hermies British Cemetery, France. This Cemetery is in open countryside a few kilometres west of Bapaume.
